The short answer
Monthly bookkeeping for a Chicago small business is priced on transaction volume, not on revenue. A single-owner consultancy with one bank account and one credit card sits at the bottom of the range. A Devon Avenue retail shop with daily cash deposits, three cards and six people on payroll sits well above it.
What actually moves the price
- Transaction count. Every line has to be categorized and every account reconciled to the statement.
- Number of accounts. Two cards and a loan is three more reconciliations each month.
- Payroll. Pay runs have to be recorded and matched against the quarterly filings.
- Condition of the books. Catch-up work is quoted separately from the monthly fee.
Why a flat monthly fee
Hourly billing punishes you for asking questions. We look at three months of statements, quote a flat monthly figure, and hold it. If your volume changes enough to move the number, we tell you before it does.
